One Billion Rising - Norwich Rising 2015

For the third year running myself and a group of friends have organised 'Norwich Rising' an event held on Valentines Day to raise awareness of the massive issue of domestic violence against, in the main, women and girls. This is just one of the 'risings' taking place all over the world on this day,

Norwich Rising takes the form of a gathering outside the Forum in the city centre where we do a dance to a song called 'Break the Chain', hear some poetry and this year an amazing blues singer, Sue Lane, sang one of Tracy Chapman's heart breaking songs about domestic violence.

A representative of Leeway, a local charity which supports women and girls who are in abusive relationships, also attended and people were invited to write statements about why they were rising on sheets of paper and take photos and post them widely on social media.

Despite the seriousness of the subject the atmosphere was joyous and loving, with women, girls, men and boys all joining together to say NO to domestic violence.

Here are some more of my photos.

Hopefully I'll catch up with everyone's journals soon.
