The Tower of Evesham

We took Dylan to the outskirts of Evesham this morning to visit the site of the Battle of Evesham (August 1265).

This battle was between Henry III and the forces of Simon de Montfort, later known as the father and founder of the British House of Commons.

There are a couple of memorials to de Montfort, an obelisk and this building, Leicester Tower (Simon was Earl of Leicester).

We had a good walk but unfortunately dogs are not allowed in the Abbey Manor grounds so we went around the edges and through a field; we had to leave him in the car whilst we made a quick trip up the path to the base of the tower and didn’t see the obelisk as you have to continue on to see that.  Maybe another day.
