Above And Beyond...

Cherhill, Calne

After breakfast we left our hotel after enjoying our Valentine weekend break. On advice from 'Peahen' we decided to visit Lacock, Wiltshire which is a very picturesque late medieval village, and the scene of many films such as Harry Potter. We enjoyed a good hour browsing.

On the way there, driving on the A4, near Calne, Wilstshire, we passed signs for Cherhill White Horse. The sun was trying to break through the clouds on to the hills. I stopped the car and grabbed a few pic of Cherhill monument. The White Horse, nearby, is out of view. Just as I took the picture some birds flew in to the frame.

I did take a couple of nice ones in Lacock but prefer this one from Cherhill.

The Cherhill Monument, officially called the Landsdowne Monument after the family who commissioned and erected it in 1845. It is a prominent feature in the mid-Wiltshire landscape.

The Monument was built in dedication to William Petty, a leading personality within elite circles in the 1600s and whose legacy lives on in aweinspiring fashion amongst the world’s decision makers today. Although credited with many achievements, his most powerful involvement was developing “science of population statistics.”
