St Botolph's Church, Swyncombe

This is St Botolph's Church of Swyncombe in south Oxfordshire, near Henley, Nettlebed and Wallingford.  This Norman church made of flint and stone sits in a small and pretty valley in the Chiltern hills, and is well-known for the carpet of snowdrops and yellow aconites in the churchyard.  Every weekend in February, during the height of the snowdrop display,  the church provides homemade tea and cakes - 'Snowdrop teas' - to raise money for the church.  I was told that they served about 300 yesterday and about 500 today.

Although it was a bit of a grey afternoon, it wasn't very cold and it was very pleasant having afternoon tea sitting in the grounds of the church.  The sun even came out and we finally saw blue sky and a beautiful sunset later on.  The church had an early choral evensong service, with the Swyncombe choir taking part.  Every seat was taken.

I've never been here before but the area looked like a walker's paradise.  I shall return with Dolly soon!
