Hokianga ferry

Sadly, we left G & J today (although l will see J when the two of us go to Samoa in a weeks time). A big thank you to both G & J for their great hospitality.

We travelled down the west coast of NZ stopping briefly at 90 Mile beach which is actually only about 60 miles long but its still a long beach .

Maori belief is that when they die their spirit travels up 90 Mile beach, along Spirit Bay and stops to rest in an old pohutukawa tree that hangs off the very tip of NZ before departing this world. A lovely thought, l would like my spirit would do that

To avoid a drive around the inner edge of Hokianga harbour we took the car on a ferry across; a lovely calm day and beautiful temperature. The photo shows the hamlet of Rawene as we come in to land.
