Pipi and tuatua picking

Today we went out to a Kauri bush park. A Kauri is a tree special to NZ. They grow to an immense size and age. The largest is called Tane Mahuta (God of the forest) and is 169 feet tall. We had a lovely walk of about an hour through beautiful bush and lots of Kauri trees. We finished off the day by stopping at Bayley's beach and digging in the sand, along with others (as pictured), for our supper of pipis and tuatua (kinds of shell fish which live just below the low tide water mark in the sand). Got rather wet.
