Panning for Gold

On the second day of our camping trip we drove to Ophir, 100km north west of our campsite. This is where Australia's first payable gold was discovered by my great great uncles in 1851, as I have documented in a previous blip.

It was exciting to see several plaques and a monument commemorating the discovery which could have been right where I am trying to emulate their feat in this image. (I don't actually have a pan which didn't help, but you get the gist ;-))

There is nothing much in this remote area now. Just some old mine tunnels, exotic trees planted in anticipation of a township developing and quite a nice camping area beside the river.
