Big Pit Mining Museum

Had a fab day out at Big Pit Mining Museum, Blaenavon today with my youngest daughter and the famous five (my grandchildren). on the last weekday of half term.

We hoped to go down the mine shaft, 300 metres below ground level, but were concerned that Jonah at 3 years old might be too little to come with us, but were pleasantly surprised when they let us all go.  Jonah was given this lolly as a treat for being such a good boy.

Its an amazing experience learning how the mine worked but very sad at the same time.  Men, women and children, some at the tender age of seven, had various jobs to perform, not forgetting the pit ponies who actually lived and worked in the mine.

Well worth a visit.
