Liberty Bridge

Liberty Bridge was built between 1894 and 1899 by teh hungarian engineer Janos Fekethehazy. The bridge was opened by Emperor Franz Joseph and was originally given his name. The Germans destroyed the bridge in 1945 in an attempt to delay the advancing Russian army. Since then it has been rebuilt faithfully restoring all of its original features, including the legendary Hungarian tural birds on top of the columns. Citizens of Edinburgh may recognise the yellow vehicles as the mythical tram!
