Water water everywhere

Today Mandy and I started walking the Thames Path. We set off very early and drove to Swindon, then got the train to Kemble and walked a mile and a half to the source (or at least, the place that is commonly known as the source). It was as dry as a bone, and the path followed an empty ditch for quite a way, but after about a mile, another tributary joined to make a proper river, with water and everything!

In total, we walked nearly 15 miles today, mostly dry underfoot but a couple of very wet and muddy places. We weren't always next to the Thames unfortunately, especially through the Cotswold Water Park, but it was beautiful countryside and we had such lovely weather (apart from the short sharp hailstorm at one point).

After 5 hours of walking, we ended up at Cricklade where we had a cup of coffee in the only place open while we waited for the bus back to Swindon. The bus only ran once an hour, but it was dead on time and only £2.60 for a 25 minute journey - bargain!

Unfortunately, we then got stuck in a traffic jam on the motorway on the way home, but fortunately, Mandy's husband was cooking us roast pork for dinner, which was very much appreciated. I'm now back home and off for a long hot bath and early night.

It has been a very enjoyable day, if rather exhausting - I'm sure I'll sleep well tonight. We're hoping to do a section of the path each month, so I'm already looking forward to the next trip at the end of March.
