Coast of Kings

Cascais in Portugal is on what is known as the Coast of Kings, the Portuguese Riviera. It was today's destination for the international driving launch of the new Suzuki Vitara. The hotel where the event is based is in a beautiful building that was once an old fort. It stands next to a vivid yellow building that is the official residence of the president of Portugal when he is in the area.

In the courtyard between them, this vast piece of sculpture is in the form of a pair of binoculars that reflect the scene around them. I love the way they contrast with the egg yolk colour of the old Palacio.

After this afternoon's driving we had coffee in the hotel atrium, and someone spotted a familiar face amongst the group at another table. It was Queen Sofia of Spain, taking coffee with her entourage.

It seems as though the Coast of Kings is living up to its reputation ...
