Buddha And Mandarins (Monday 16th February 2015)

I've been discovering recently the surprising abundance and variety of wildlife in Calne.  There are at least three types of deer (roe, fallow, muntjac), peregrines, hobbies, tawny owls, barn owls, long-eared owls, egrets and herons,  goosanders and terns, to name but a few. Calne's dippers were the first in the county in recent times (there has recently been another sighting in Box) and last week a water rail was seen on the Marden.

Calne also has a thriving population of wild mandarin ducks, around two dozen at the moment, all living on the Marden near the town centre, where I took these with their spiritual leader.

Part of the US surfing craze of the early sixties was this girl group, named from a slang term for female surfing enthusiasts. They comprised Marilyn and Diane Rovell and Ginger Blake, their cousin.Brian Wilson was their record producer and he later married Marilyn Rovell. He wrote and produced this Spector soundalike, recorded at the famous Goldstar Studio in Hollywood.
