Uncivil War

As our daughter had a free Saturday we had a rare family day out in Knaresborough and Harrogate. In Knaresborough we walked along the riverside and up a lot of steps to the castle which fell to the parliamentarians in the Civil War and now belongs to the Duchy of Lancaster. We then explored the interesting shops in and around the market square before descending the hill back to the car just in time to avoid the rain. There were several interesting old houses down the hill including a Tudor style house, a thatched cottage and this house which caught my eye but missed Robert10's. Where the old windows had been blocked up, presumably the result of window tax, two trompe l'oeil replacements had been added, apparently by a Royalist sympathiser.
The afternoon was nicely rounded off with a visit to Betty's famous cafe in Harrogate for afternoon tea. Purchases were made in the shop in readiness for Mothering Sunday and Easter together with a couple of Fat Rascals for later.
A grand day out.
