Sticky rice

After the stress of the kayaking yesterday, I didn't really do much other than relax and eat, so it seems the right time to talk about some Lao food...

Sticky rice is a huge part of their diet and a very popular dish eaten by the locals is a trio of sticky rice, smokey aubergine (eggplant) dip and dried river weed sheets. The traditional way of eating it is to eat with your hands by making a rice ball and dipping it in the aubergine and then snacking on some of the river weed in the same mouthful. I love it so much that I've been having it almost every day.

The photo is of a traditional "Lao farmer's breakfast" which also includes a dill and tomato omelette.
