My alternative diary

Quite a day

Wife had an outpatient appointment for day surgery to her hand (well thumb). She had to be at Milton Keynes Hospital for 7:15 am so it was a really early start for us. We arrived with a few minutes to spare and reception had yet to open.

She was collected in due course with about 5 other patients and disappeared between two large doors. I elected to wait and that would be Ok as there was a café in the next door block. Well, except the café area had been commandeered for the whole week a GPs refresher course, so had to make do with the odd coffee from the machine.

The morning continued in much the same way, the lady with the clip board calling out names and taking her charges through the large doors – INTO WHAT. As the morning went on it felt really surreal with groups of people being whisked off into the great opening and NON re-emerging – were they being captured by aliens? Great relief as just after midday wife emerged through the “great opening” and the spell was broken. Obviously not the most pleasant experience but she had survived. So it was off home via Olney where we stopped for a sandwich and a drink.

A bit of TLC and then interruption by daughter – could I take grandson to his dance class (he’s in a street dance crew and his crew came first in competition the weekend before last). And wife (bless her) made a risotto whilst I was out delivering grandson. After a yummy tea I delivered a framed print bought at the weekend’s exhibition. Really nice to meet people who are prepared to pay money for a photograph you have taken and exhibited… A very interesting conversation at handover revealed that they like two of my images and found difficulty in choosing. I did of course point out my email address on the back of the frame so if they wanted the other one in the future I’d be glad to oblige.

Today’s blip is a statue sited in the centre of the waiting area in the Treatment Centre. It’s called “Techno Growth” by Ernest Bottomley. It was sculptured to mark the 20th anniversary of the opening of MK hospital and was donated by the artist.
