Everything changes

Last week I took a taxi to a meal with an old friend in Edinburgh.   Stuck for the name of the street in which he lives I told the taxi driver that it was opposite a pub I named.

"It hasn't been called that for twenty years " he said, though he admitted he knew precisely where it was.

Since then I have been sensitised  to everything that has changed in the city since I lived here as a student in the 1970s,

Places like  Waverley Steps - once a rather drab way out from the station but now a high tech thoroughfare .
