Impounded

Another little adventure today as I looked for a Derelict Thursday shot.  I had to be careful to watch my back though for tomorrow is Holi and people were buying coloured powders and there were quite a few youths already playing the game.  Having been escorted out of a building site by 5 men who surrounded me and manoeuvered me out of the gate without touching me a couple of days ago I wasn't expecting the same thing to happen again so soon - this time it was 6 policement who edged me into a police station for asking whether I could take a picture of their compound at the rear.  I don't know why they were so sensitive but I met first a lowly clerk, then her boss, and after a couple more men with more pips on their shoulders I was ushered into the chief's office - the glare from the shine on his belt and shoes was blinding - he was sweetness itself (he obviously had a sweet tooth too for his belt held an enormous weight) and told me I could photograph anything I liked.  I failed to ask him for his portrait - stupid me.  So here lie the precinct's impounded bicycles, car, trucks, a quantity of motorbikes and scooters  (hidden behind them) and a multitude of stories.  Were the owners hurt or even killed in accidents or just contravening the law, did they lose their bikes or just abandon them?  And why are they kept - will they be needed as evidence in a court case years hence? Unfortunately I can't speak Hindi and no one was able to explain in English.

Thanks to Freespiral and Himself for hosting Derelict Thursday
