Ice Box Canyon

This afternoon my son and I gave my DIL an afternoon off and took the girls and Kymba back into Red Rock Canyon for a hike. The weather was glorious with a deep blue sky showing off the red rocks superbly. There are many hikes available here and we chose to take one through Ice Box Canyon which is a small canyon with seasonal waterfalls at the end of hike, although we didn't quite reach the end as the pathway, if you could call it that, became even more rocky and too treacherous to contemplate with such precious cargoes. In bad weather the canyon is so narrow that if rain or snow falls then it quickly fills up and only last week three hikers got caught out in the heavy rain/snow showers and couldn't get rescued until the following day as conditions were so bad. Today, however, was a good hiking day. We had the girls in their slings and R slept the whole way snuggled in to me while L, being slightly bigger, was placed in her sling on her Daddy facing outwards and her big eyes seemed to be taking everything in and she stayed awake the whole time. Unfortunately the blue sky does not show in this shot as it was in such stark contrast to the shaded mountainside but I hope it gives you a feel of the hike. You can see the lingering snow on the tops.
