Polyanthus

Most primrose flowers seen in gardens are Polyanthus hybrids like the ones in today's blip. I moved four 10 inch pots into a ventilated cold frame during the last three weeks to give them a boost. This has paid dividends as the blooms have come on by leaps and bounds and are looking good. Outside conditions have been Baltic and wet.

These perennial plants prefer damp, woodland-like conditions but I have brought a couple of pots into the conservatory to enjoy for a little while before they go out on the patio. You may have spotted that the use of the polar co-ordinates filter in this shot, although the beautiful white edging on the violet bloom is nothing to do with Photoshop! They are such a joy at this time of year when most garden enthusiasts are desperate for the spring colour, although in Scotland the daffodils can still be a few weeks away.
