The Hadrian

We set off this morning to see and photograph a steam train in Cumbria. The first viewpoint we parked at was only a few miles from home. We got out the cameras, did some test shots on a Virgin train and waited.

Before long a by-passer told us we had missed it. According to their phone it had passed Penrith station 23 minutes ahead of schedule. Needless to say, we were very disappointed. However we had planned to catch another leg of its journey this afternoon so we headed to Wetheral station.

We got there well ahead of time and chatted to other photographers while we waited. A few shots and it was gone. This was the shot I wanted with the train coming under the road bridge.

The trains were double banked with The Hadrian in front and The Lancashire Fusilier behind it. Lots and lots of carriages!

As it passed we were enveloped in smoke, a smell that brought back childhood memories.
