Old Boney

On the way between meetings today, I passed through Greyfriars churchyard. Although it's not Cemetery Sunday, I couln't resist this memorial, built into the wall of the church.

If you look closely, you can make out the scythe held in the skeleton's (missing) right hand. And presumably he once had a left arm holding what I assume is the Book of judgement.

Edinburgh's graveyards do seem to contain a lot of rather morbid imagery!!
