Late night on the dunes

This was taken at two minutes past midnight (Friday into Saturday). After heading over to Crosby and managing to get out onto the beach as the sun sank into the sea, we headed back to Rob's place. The boys played on the Xbox whilst us oldies sat around drinking coffee and chatting.

Around 11.15pm, we went out again - Rob, Coz, James, Rob Jnr and myself - and headed over to the dunes which are about 2 minutes walk from Rob's front door. We climbed to the top and were rewarded with a view of the moon, a beautiful waxing crescent, becoming more and more golden yellow in colour as it sank towards the horizon to the same place as the sun not much more than an hour earlier. Out towards the wind farm which is out at sea, hundreds of twinkling lights, of boats waiting for the tide to return to the channel to allow access to the port and also, we think, of working boats around the windmills, probably doing maintenance of some sort.

The kids played at dune jumping in the dark, whilst Rob and Coz hid from them and jumped out on them to scare the bejeezus out of them. I hid down in the dunes to protect myself from the light pollution and gave myself neckache staring at the stars. Eventually, Coz and Rob sat still long enough for me to capture them silhouetted against the light from Seaforth and Waterloo.

We got home late.

Today, we've been back over. We headed to Thurstaston on the Wirral and went to climb Thors Rock. The kids and Rob Snr then went to the cinema, whilst me, Marie and Coz sat around drinking tea. We also managed a visit to Nana.

Home late, Salad for tea at 10.35pm and now a glass of wine.

Despite it being a very painful day for me, it's been lovely to have spent some quality time with family this weekend.

Thank you Hebdons!
