Anfield

James and I have been on a tour of Liverpool with Mum and Roy. Uncle Lenny took us - he has 40 years worth of driving experience in the city and has lived there all of his life, so he knows all sorts of stuff.

In the interests of balance we did swing past Goodison Park as well, but as James is definitely an LFC boy, we visited the main gates and also the memorial to the 96 fans lost in the Hillsbrough tragedy.

We've seen both cathedrals, and with a little bit of smooth talking from Lenny, managed to gain access to the main steps/side of the Anglican cathedral where the tech crew were dismantling from this morning's Battle of the Atlantic service.

We've been taken to the house where Ringo Starr grew up, which is on a street which is due for demolition. The boards that cover the windows and doors on that particular house are covered in grafitti specific to Ringo from fans around the world.

We've seen the Russian, German and Canadian warships docked as part of the Battle of the Atlantic celebrations.

It's been ace seeing some familiar and some new places.

Despite not having lived there, much of my growing up has involved Liverpool and the wider area, and I know that although Nana has now gone, the ties are still there in wider family and the general pull of the place.

I smiled a little at the words above the gate, as we had said farewell to Nana with a version of that famous song.
