Kitten update

Some months ago, I posted a blip (actually several blips) of kittens, the babies of a stray mama cat who roamed our neighborhood and chose to give birth under the woodpile in our back yard. The other day marmilner asked what happened to the kittens, and I decided today was a good day for an update.

Our new neighbor, Allison, who moved in about the time the kittens were born, took them on as a project. Catching them wasn't easy, but she eventually won their trust enough to capture them and take them to the vet to be checked over. She found homes for them, keeping two for her children, giving one to her mother, and the fourth one to another neighbor. Not satisfied with that, Allison also managed to capture the mama cat and took her to the vet to be "fixed." Mama is a feral cat who refuses to be tamed, but thanks to Allison and another neighbor Eloise, she won't be producing any more homeless kittens to roam the neighborhood with her.

Now you know the rest of the story. Mama Cat is still free and looks healthy, and the kittens have been placed in forever homes, The no-longer-tiny-kitten in today's blip is Leah, being held by Allison's daughter Jordan. So the story has a happy ending, and we have delightful new neighbors.

Suggestion: If you didn't see my special Memorial weekend blip yesterday honoring the heroes of Flight 93, please take a minute to look at it and read their story.
