Before & After Series #1 - Family Room

Sixteen years ago this week, we moved into our Connecticut farm house.  When we bought the place, it hadn't been lived in for 8 years, and it was very forlorn and in need of some serious TLC.  In honour of this anniversary, I have decided to do a series of "Before and After" shots to show the changes that have been made to this old place since we took ownership.

We're starting in what was originally the kitchen.  One of the problems to be overcome was that there was no room large enough to serve as a sitting room for a family of five.  The kitchen was a nightmare -- nothing had been done to it since the early 1970's, it was depressingly dark and badly laid out, but it did have space in its favour, so we decided to relocate the kitchen and turn this into our primary living space.

The view of the family room was taken from approximately the same spot as the shot in the upper right corner.  The corner of window visible to the right of the stove is in the same place as the double window behind the sofa.  The picture in the lower right corner shows the same wall as the one with the love seat and green sculpture in the "after" image.
