Spikey green pod

You are probably wondering what this is.  It looks like under water slime, but no, it's a Swan Plant seed pod.  Very unusual, especially up close.  I think there is a monarch egg on it - I'm not 100% sure, hopefully someone may just be able to advise whether I'm correct or not.
