Irongray Church

Part of my project involves photographing Irongray Church,  which is about two miles away from our house. A guidebook says that 'the kirk and graveyard stand on a Knoll where itinerant monks of the early Celtic church came periodically to conduct the sacred ordinances.'
It was at Irongray Church that James, my great great great grandfather from yesterday's blip,  was baptised. Here his aunt, who married the man who built our house,  is buried. Here also is the grave of Helen Walker,  the model for Sir Walter Scott's Jennie Deans in "The Heart of Midlothian". Helen refused to bear false witness at the trial of her sister Isabel for child-murder. Isabel was convicted as a result,  and Helen walked barefoot to London to plead (successfully) for her sister's life.
The oldest grave dates from 1633 and the churchyard is still in use today.
I have tried making a liquid emulsion of the church on slate,  but with no success so far. Wood has worked better,  but paper (as here) best of all.
