No Snakes Here Either...

St Patrick made his name on the emerald isle for banishing the snakes, amongst other saintly things. As far as I'm aware, Ireland's patron saint didn't make it to the fair shores of Aotearoa, but like the Irish we are serpent free.

In fact the only thing you'll find snaking their way across the floors of the forest are tree roots, like these impressive ones spreading away from giant kahikatea here in Dennistoun Bush.

As you can see from the colours, Autumn is starting to take hold here in the forest, and whilst most natives found here are evergreen, once the windfall fronds hit the forest floor they soon turn to golden brown. The walk around the forest in the light rain was decidedly cool, and the roaring of the stags in the paddocks of the other side of the bush gave an eerie feeling to the experience too.

The nights seem to be drawing in faster each day. The fire is now going most evenings and I think it might be time to stock up on firewood. And, in the spirit of St Patricks Day, some more Irish Whiskey to keep the winter chills at bay. Slainte!
