For behold, darkness shall cover the earth

At 9.35 the Keeper of the great light in the sky turned the dimmer down. Sadly, the mechanism involved was hidden behind the clouds. As a consolation the Keeper had provided an egret to keep me entertained whilst I waited for a break in the clouds. Look carefully and you should be able to spot him/her.

The clouds finally cleared just before 10 and we managed to see the tail end of the 98% eclipse projected through a colander.

The title is a quote from Handel's Messiah, based on Isaiah 60:2-3

For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.
