Road to Ronda

The old adage about the rain in Spain falling mainly on the plain is completely wrong. Today it has been raining in Spain absolutely everywhere. It has been a grey, wet day. No, I'm not expecting any sympathy!

I was excited about flying out to Spain at 9 am this morning, thinking it would mean that I'd see the solar eclipse from above the clouds, but no such luck. As we were heading south we missed it. Pity.

When we arrived in Malaga, heavy rain streaked past the plane windows as we landed, and the airport roads were awash with water. Happily, though, the rain eased after we set off on the road to Ronda. We are here to drive the new Kia Sorento, and had an enjoyable drive up into the hills behind Marbella.

The town of Ronda is perched high above a dramatic gorge, with a wonderful lofty stone bridge astride it, and it has a famous bullring. This wonderful statue stands sentinel outside. I hate the barbarism of bullfighting, now largely outlawed, but love some of the artefacts it has left behind.
