If you can't beat them...

LIme Kilns at Rheged.

We started the day by dropping some of Clickychicks pictures off at a Gallery.  Then off to Rheged as she had to meet a client there.  We arrived with plenty of time to spare so we went to have a look at the "Wildlife Photographer of the Year" Exhibition.  Some wonderful work but I was a little disappointed at the prints being smaller than last year and the details were place lowdown so that to read the details of the camera exposure etc you had to knee down.  Still a very impressive exhibition.

This shot is taken through the window of what is called the Mountain Hall .  One of the requirements for planning permission was that these old lime kilns had to be preserved.  So you look out of the wall of windows across a pond to these.  For me the view was made even better by a pair of Grey Wagtail flitting about totally undisturbed

Lime kilns where used to convert limestone into quick lime.  The arches are the access arches to get below the layers of lime and fuel to light the fires and I assume provide ventilation.
