Richard of York (1452–1485)

This week we shall re-bury King Richard III, last of the Plantagenet dynasty, in Leicester Cathedral. What a story; the last king of these Isles to be killed in battle, buried and lost for for more than five centuries and then dug up in a council car park. You couldn't make it up! The cherry on the cake for me was that Richard was positively identified by the DNA finger printing techniques developed in the very same city by the geneticist Professor Sir Alec John Jeffreys.
The only sad thing is that King Richard will be buried in the wrong Cathedral; the clue is in the name - Richard of York! 
This statue of Richard stands in Middleham Castle in Wensleydale, Yorkshire where Richard spent much of his childhood. I have added the white Yorkist rose.
I am afraid that I have broken the rules a little in that the background was photographed earlier, but the rose is fresh!
