Life in Newburgh on Ythan

By Talpa

A branch of Scottish palm.

But on the morew a myche puple, that cam togidere to the feeste dai, whanne thei hadden herd, that Jhesus cam to Jerusalem, token braunchis of palmes, and camen forth ayens hym, and crieden, Osanna, blessid is the kyng of Israel, that cometh in the name of the Lord.

John 12. from the Wycliffe Bible translated into Middle English between 1382 and 1395.

The flowering shoots of pussy willow are used both in Europe and America for spring religious decoration on Palm Sunday, as palm branches are pretty hard to come by in these parts!

I had planned this for Palm Sunday but only today did I find a willow in flower.

The extra is quite unrelated to today's theme, being a view of Robert Stevenson's magnificent 1827 lighthouse at Buchan Ness.
