Left its young behind

Another full day, followed by an evening run. Drove to Lake Rotomanu, and ran around it. It is a small lake, and there were a number of duck species.

Looking at all the different photos, I decided this was the most appealing; to me anyway. It is an adult female Papango, the New Zealand Scaup or Black Teal.

Trailing some distance behind was a smaller Papango, which once called out plaintively, and was ignored. Mother was swimming with a mix of mallards and NZ grey ducks, seemingly on the alert for humans to offer food, as they sped towards me until they realised the camera wasn't food. Then they went elsewhere.
