Sgwarnog: In the Field

Wasdale Fingerpost

Another superb day saw us head to the next valley up for some classic Lake District views. In my teens I came to Wasdale a lot on family camping holidays, and climbed most of the peaks round about with my Dad. Our little ones are not quite up to the mountains yet, so we settled down for a day of lakeside pottering.

On days like this there really were too many potential blips to choose from, including the classic view up Wastwater to the high peaks, odd bits of freshwater wildlife which defy identification for the moment, birds, and a low level fly past from a Lockheed Hercules. I've settled for this old Cumberland County Council fingerpost sign, complete with with a glimpse of the lake, Great Gable at the head of the valley and the flank of Scafell Pike, the highest peak in England. Postman Pat fans may like to know that this spot is known as Greendale.

I'll try to put up some links to other near-blips later.
