Big ears!

Well big antennae really!
Last year Juby, Dylan and Mylah raised some Emperor moths Saturnia pavonia, and really enjoyed releasing them back into the wild (see 14.4.14). Following this, they raised more larvae last year, and the last couple of days they have begun to hatch.
This amazingly beautiful male hatched earlier today and allowed me a quick photo shoot before being transferred to my huge flight cage before release as soon as it warms up a little!
They have the most stunning antennae, radar dishes, waving around picking up pheromones given off by the females.
I feel so honoured to have been able to take these shots today....it's what being an entomologist is all about ;-)
