Paris Sunset

A view at 18:43 this afternoon from our 4th floor apartment in Paris 13e. We enjoy spectacular views, especially morning and afternoon.  The tall building on the left is on the Avenue d'Italie, virtually on the edge of Chinatown beyond it.

We went to the Velasquez exhibition at the Grand Palais this midday. Here's a slightly edited version of a commentary I sent to my friend Gregory, who had hoped to see it but came too early:

"You needn't be as sorry to miss the show as you might think.  It was as big as a typical Grand Palais expo, covering his entire career and more. They hung considerably more non-Velasquez than genuine ones--predecessors, followers and associates as well as many "studio of" etc.  I didn't specifically count any category, but the number of mature autograph paintings was distinctly limited.  They had one quasi-copy of Las Meninas which I found frankly embarrassing (I do understand that the real thing has to remain in Madrid :)

More perhaps tomorrow, it's late after a dinner guest and a France-Brazil soccer friendly in Paris (1-3, including a lovely goal by Neymar).
