Palma's Le Seu

Palma cathedral is more commonly known as Le Seu and I felt that it is such an emblem of the city and the island of Mallorca it should be my last holiday blip. As you can see it has been a glorious day and we are now sitting at the airport watching the sun going down over the ( very clear ) mountains.

We walked around the ramparts this morning seen here from the other side of the lake at Le Parc de Mar. When we looked around the cathedral on Wednesday there was a display of photos taken in 1928 with their equivalent 2014 photo alongside. At that earlier time the sea came right up to these city walls. Now there is a park, a wide walkway and a six lane highway along the sea front!

To the left of the cathedral is the palace, I'm sure when we were here in 1975 Franco was in residence! Scary.
To the right is the Episcopal Palace, the home of the bishop.
We spent quite some time watching a huge cruise ship coming in ( it pleased Chris! ) it was one of the Costas. More charming were the groups of young children being led in groups by their teachers all wearing identical pinafores!

We went on to the Banys Arabs just behind the cathedral. Created by the Moors somewhere around the 10 th century. It was very interesting and had a lovely little garden to sit and enjoy some sun whilst eating our sandwiches ( pinched from breakfast I'm afraid!) I think a picture from here would have been my choice had I already posted the cathederal. I'll try to put some on Flickr when I get back if you are interested.

Spent the afternoon in the Cuitat Historic enjoying the narrow streets before hitting a favourite cafe for tea and cake. I had Mallorquin almond cake with almond ice cream; it was lovely and I rarely like things with almond flavouring, this was just natural almonds.

Sadly it was time to go. There was a Joan Miro mural where we had coffee at the Parc de Mar. There is a Miro institute here but we didn't have time to get there. He wasn't from Mallorca but his mother and wife were so he spent many holidays here from childhood.
Well just have to come back!
Those mountains will certainly call us.
