Lathyrus Odoratus

Mooo-ving in

The big day is nearly here. Not Mrs L's birthday, nor the Jubilee jamboree or the Olympics but the restoration of extensive livestock grazing on Chailey Commons. After an absence of nearly 75 years, a ten year campaign, public inquiry and extensive ground works, the first cattle (British Whites) are due to arrive on Saturday. They will be followed by Sussex Longhorns and then ten Exmoor ponies. Sheep - 100 Hebrideans - will be baaa-ck as well.

The spaniel can hardly contain himself though I expect he may have to be walked elsewhere. I have volunteered to be a 'looker' so will be helping to 'look' after the cattle two days a week. I suspect the main duties will be looking for them - they have an awful lot of scrub to hide in and, hopefully, eat their way through.
