Between fen and mountains

Electronic information

I went down to the Tourist Office for a meeting with the events coordinator and the cultural attaché at the Mairie (if that is not too grand a title).  In true Catalan style, the councillor arrived half an hour late but I was happy to sit in the sunshine watching the installation of a new and bigger electronic information board. We seem to have bypassed spring today and I was shedding clothes all day.  I did comment when I went back into the tourist office that it was facing south and would be more difficult to read in the strong summer sun.  They did not seem to think it a problem but nothing really is if you can cultivate that relaxed southern attitude!  In the afternoon at French conversation we discussed the huge problem of bee colony collapse in the mountain hives.  The problem has been identified as pesticide residues found in cow pats that get into the water courses and affect the pollen.  The farmers now cross the border to buy their pesticides in Spain so they continue to kill bees.  Without the bees, all crops are threatened but unfortunately there is no effective policing.
