Dog in a Pot

The nearby rubbish pit has been closed for a while now and the entire hill is now duly covered with tarpaulins, earth and turf.  That is a blessing!  The problem is that all the rats that, for years, had an endless source of food, now are spreading throughout the area looking for new homes. Worse, on the north side, the few cottages here have become their preferred locations.

I'm not squeamish about mice and rats but the damage they do is becoming beyond tolerable. I stuck this forcing pot over an exit hole with a block or two of bait in it.  The dogs have got a whiff of the rat and have spent the most part of the day with their heads inside in the hope of catching it.  The bait, just in case you think I'm foolish, is in a special box so the even if the dogs do manage to tip over the pot, they can't get at it.

I know it's not the done thing to admit that a Cocker is a good ratting dog but these two eliminate a couple or more every week.
