Between fen and mountains

The Belfry museum

Tuesday is bell ringing practice. Attempts have been made to make the ringing chamber a little more comfortable with a few old bits of carpet and an electric bar fire which raises the temperature a few degrees above freezing in winter. The hoover is pretty useless because a few minutes operation is enough to fill it with pigeon droppings. Peter, the tower captain, has turned the ringing chamber into an unofficial village museum, largely due, I believe, to his wife's intolerance of all the clutter old artefacts he collected when he was headmaster of the village primary school. How he got it all up the spiral staircase I do not know. So, we have the old bicycle complete with carbide lamp, an enamel sign, a collection of old bottles, some of which are quite rare and a barn ladder as well as various other bits and pieces that may feature in future blips.
