Spring Lambs

The wife is a bit of a salad worshipper, so when she said she fancied buying a gammon I went with the suggestion. The son and a couple of friends have raved about a certain butcher, Roberts on The Gaer, Newport.

Within the hour we were there. It was busy but the service was first class, and I was impressed before we'd even tried the meat. They even chucked in six of their finest made sausages to try. With two large gammon joints and these sausages, it was less than £10. The bag wasn't half heavy.

On getting home, the wife picked some fresh Rosemary from the garden and slow roasted one of the pieces.

We walked up the local mountain to Machen mast, across the coal slag that can be seen from Cardiff, and downhill through a friends farm back into the village. The young lambs were a joy to watch and were jumping or springing about. The blip photo is of two who were enjoying the sunshine.

The gammon sandwiches were excellent and I will certainly be buying my meat from this butchers in future. It was busy for a reason. Excellent price, service and quality. It's a shame to think these spring Lambs will only have a couple of years before they end up at a butchers. That's life I suppose.
