Gillipaw's Journal

Amadeus at Ardrishaig

En route to Islay, our first visit. A longer than expected journey.  We had a phone call and text from calmac to say our ferry was delayed due to a technical problem.

Advised to arrive at 7.30pm for the 6pm crossing. Ended up leaving Kennacraig at 9.30pm. Arrived in Port Ellen at midnight. Hoped to be quickly off the ferry, but a car just in front of us had a low undercarriage and hit the off ramp.  Took a lot of wood and sandbags to raise the level before they inched off.

Greeted by locals leaving 'the local', cheering 'Welcome to Islay' at 12.20am.  We found our accommodation around 1am, thankfully locating the hidden key.  Well appointed, recently renovated. Fell into bed after 2am. I wonder what Islay looks like?  We'll find out in the morning.
