Gently down the stream

The earth that gives us life x 2

The point of this blip (for MonoMonday, subject 'earth') was to try and differentiate between the earth that grows life and the earth we seem constantly to move around in order to reshape our world.  Obviously both are important. Here is the very beginning of a huge building project to put up 2,000 houses on farmland at the edge of Winchester.  I feel sad about it, it's somewhere I walk.  Equally houses are desperately needed round here, as everywhere.  Mainly what are needed are 'affordable' houses.  Mainly what is being built are 'luxury' houses.

The first thing that's happening is that the main Andover road is being diverted through what will become the estate.  Why is a mystery to many people.  The current Andover Road is a main route into Winchester.  It's as straight as they come (yes, it's Roman).  The new one will not be, but will wind through the new houses.  Perhaps there is a good reason, who knows.

This vast pile of earth is the beginnings of a roundabout for the new road.  Mike, the farmer, is still planting crops.  The earth heap is surrounded by young wheat, and as the project will take probably 10 years to complete, I guess he will go on farming here for a little while yet.

So that's my MonoMonday.  Thanks to notowennewitt for hosting this month.  Hope you're all having a great day  xx
