Potato Planting

18.6C (local weather station), 15.7C (Met office station Leuchars) with long sunny spells and some thin white cloud. Moderate breeze.

Some salad seeds sown in trays and the dwarf French beans sown in pots this morning, watered and put into the greenhouse.

Maeve the Deerhound and I went for our walk after lunch. In the field nearest our house there were two tractors with potato planting machinery working up and down. For reasons known only to themselves they had started in the middle of the field rather than at one side or the other. Each tractor and machine works along the length one of the huge rough drills which then becomes two smoother ridges with the potatoes planted deep within.

Maeve and I went up to the church then continued out along the country road towards Scryne. In the field where we saw potatoes being planted yesterday at Craigmill farm the machines were in action again today. We turned right at the farm and went down the track to the shore.

We came back along the cycle path and round in a long loop, heading into Carnoustie then up the main road before turning along for home.
