Songkran festival approaching

The Songkran festival is the 'festival of water' - a well-advertised celebration in the Thai calendar.
There are two sides to it: a religious side & a secular one.
It coincides with the Thai New Year [Pimai] from April 13 to 15. Religiously speaking it is a way to wash away sins. This is why there are Buddha statues placed at many different location like on today's blip. There is a scented water large basin and people will take some with the floating cup and pour it slowly on the Buddha image.
Nowadays, it has also become a huge festival of water in the streets all over the country. Since this is the end of the dry season, it is meant to appeal for the rainy season. But many people add flour or other colours to the water in a not so nice custom that has been relayed widely by crowds of young westerners. Unfortunately, it is also the occasion of many accidents that are sometimes fatal.
