Falkirk Wheel

Once again ANewDay and I were so lucky to arrange our spring blipmeet for a lovely day!

We met for lunch at The River House in Stirling, then continued on to the Falkirk Wheel by a somewhat circuitous route due to inadequate road signs. This amazing feat of engineering has long been on my list of places to visit, so I was delighted to see it in real life at last.

The blip shows how the spectators are dwarfed by the gigantic mechanical wheel as it rotates slowly to bring one canal boat down and deposit another up high onto the Union Canal.

The combination of good weather and school holidays meant the place was very busy, but it was lovely to see families out enjoying themselves. Thanks to ANewDay, I had a super day out too.
