Signs of Spring

I was out walking today, enjoying the spring weather with JanHar. She blipped a fox we saw, and previously had blipped a squirrel, not once but twice! Impressed by all this cuteness I also decided to blip some cute wildlife so here is a wood ant colony, with a close-up of ants in action. Cute eh!
Spring is bounding in now.  Two days of warm storm wind has melted the snow at an incredible rate, leaving fields bare for the cranes, geese and curlews to feed.  The melting snow has raised water levels in the lakes and rivers, helping to break up the ice. Coltsfoot flowers (Tussilago farfara) have started to appear by the side of the road.
Large areas of forest are now snow free and where the sun shines the wood ants are bursting into action for the first time this year.
