Kildalton Cross, Islay

Ninth century High Cross, possibly the best preserved in Scotland, with copies in the Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh, and Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Glasgow. Carved from a single slab of local stone. It is in such good condition. There are some impressive slab graves too. Lovely light in the late afternoon.

A day on the road east from Port Ellen, a 'must visit' when coming to Islay. Three distilleries in three miles, this high cross and many beautiful inlets with seals on the rocks. We spotted pheasants and a beautiful peacock.

Lunch at Ardbeg Distillery, their fish chowder was delicious.  A stop at Lagavulin too.  Along to Port Ellen, searching for friends, then back to Bowmore.

Sat in the garden for two hours drinking tea, watching the sun go down over Loch Indaal, and the antics of wildlife along the shoreline.  Beautiful.
